The Jesse Tree represents the family of Jesse, the father of King David. Matthew 1:1-16 presents the lineage from Abraham to Jesus and Luke 3:23-38 records Jesusancestors all the way back to Adam in the Old Testament. The Jesse Tree namesake lived a thousand years before Jesus. Isaiah 11:1 says, Ashoot Constructing a Jesse Tree with symbols of Jesusancestors during Advent is an ancient tradition, although not so familiar as the Advent wreath. What a wonderful way to learn about Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, Noah, Jacob, Mary, and more! One may construct a Jesse Tree using branches or a small Christmas tree making the ornaments to represent Jesusancestors and history. Symbols may include a burning bush, Noahs ark, Jonah in the whale, the Star of David, the apple and the snake, Jacobs ladder, a dove, the earth, and others. These symbols represent stories in the Old Testament of either an ancestor of Jesus or a prophecy about His Hang one ornament each day of Advent, starting at the bottom and, on Christmas Eve, end at the top with the Star of David for Christ. After hanging each ornament, read an appropriate Bible verse aloud. During Advent, this ritual may replace your evening mealtime prayer, with each family member taking turns reading that days passage.
