For your or your child's comfort, please bring : - nightwear, - dressing gown, Medical charges : treatment, surgical and investigation acts, catering.... Residents : Social Security cover in France is not 100% , so it is advisable to take out further private insurance (called a "mutuelle"* or "complémentaire maladie"*). - In-patient stay : the Caisse de Sécurité Sociale will pay up to 80% of your charges directly, depending on your circumstances, as long as you are affiliated to the French Social Security system. The part not paid by the social security is called "ticket modérateur"* and mostly corresponds to 20% of the whole hospital charges. Furthermore, you will have to pay the daily hospital charge ("forfait journalier"*) which corresponds to catering fees (hostel costs) and the private room (on your - Out-patient treatment : you will have to pa y for the part not covered by the Social Security, unless you have a private insurance (‚mutuelle'*). Non residents (tourists, students,) European citizens : Social Security cover in France is not 100% In-patient stay : You will be covered by the French social security system if you produce : - the European Health Insurance card, which covers you for medical emergencies only, - appropriate European forms (E128, E110 e.g.) corresponding to your situation in France, with these documents : - you will be directly covered up to 80% , depending on your circumstances, - you will have to pay the outstanding 20% ("ticket modérateur"*) and the daily tax ("forfait journalier"*) if you do not have any further private insurance (travel assistance or other). Out-patient treatment : you will have to pay for medical charges before leaving hospital. Thanks to the receipt you will be reimbursed in your country of origin. Non European citizens : in-patient and out-patient treatment - Privately insured : you will have to produce an agreement for payment of medical charges issued by the insurance before leaving your country of origin. - Insured through travel insurance : please contact the travel insurance as soon as possible, in order to register your case. Please, communicate all the references (fax, phone, address) to the Desk for Foreign Citizens at the hospital. With your cooperation, we will take the steps to obtain financial coverage for the medical charges. - Not insured : please get in touch as soon as possible with the Desk for Foreign Citizens at hospital in order to regularize your file. They will help you to find an appropriate solution. All hospital staff are at your disposal and will assist you during your stay. Hospital doctors : your attending physician coordinates the medical team caring for you. Interns, residents and consultants, who are licensed physicians in postgraduate training, participate in your care and are supervised by your attending physician. Nursing staff : the nurse manager, a registered nurse, oversees staff and activities of the unit to which you are admitted. Registered Nurses (and nursery nurses) : coordinate your care with your physicians (and with you). Auxiliary nurses (and auxiliary nursery nurses): their priority is to improve hospital cleanline ss and patient's well being. Catering team : a food service representative will help you to make menu selections and serve them to you. Students As a teaching hospital, the University Medical Centre of Toulouse prepares students for careers in healthcare including physicians, nurses, social workers and other specialists. These students will assist professionals in their day-to-day tasks. They are carefully supervised by hospital staff and will identify themselves to you. You will be asked to give your consent for being examined by a student. Good nutrition is the key to good health. You will be served in your room well balanced meals prepared by the catering team respectful of your cultural or religious preferences. Recommendations Please, do not stock perishable food in your room (fruits, dairy products, fruit juices...). Pets are not allowed in hospital. Ventilators and air humidificators may represent some risks for patients. Please, consult the doctor before installing such devices. Inform your family members that before bringing flowers and plants to hospital, they will have to ask the hospital staff In your own interest, respect hyg iene instructions (wash hands, wear mask...) if the staff asks you to do so. Preventing Nosocomial Infection Nosocomial Infections are infections that originate or occur in a hospital. Most of them are caused by patient's own bacteria, their general state of health and provided care. Others may be generated by the hospital environment. They may be avoided through preventive hygiene measures. The medical staff does its utmost to avoid their unexpected occurrence and in 1988 the Pr evention Board for Nosocomial Infection was founded. Every year, this board presents the main actions of its program. Smoking in hospital is strictly forbidden ! Respect community life Please, respect your neighbours: avoid visits in groups, reduce the volume of your radio and television. Respect hospital equipment and furniture. Mobile phones Using mobile phone inside the medical departments is strictly forbidden (cf circular DH n° 40 9th October 2005). Facilities Telephone Telephones are available in each patient room. You will have to buy a specific telephone card that you can only use in hospital. You will also find phone boxes in the hospital. For more information, ask the receptionist. Television Televisions are available by calling the TV service line in the hospital directly from your room. You will find tariffs and information at reception desks. Television is free of charge for children. Librairy Volunteers from the French Red Cross can lend you books free of charge (even in English). A librairy is available in the Education Area in the Children's Hospital. Mail is delivered to your room every day. For further information, ask the nursing team. Shopping Religion According to your religion, you may ask the nursing team for a representative of your choice. A chapel is also at your disposal. Art at Hospital The University Medical Centre of Toulouse provides an extensive ongoing programme including exhibitions, workshops, live music and theatre. Your family at hospital Each medical unit has its own visiting hours, due to specific patient care and treatments. Make sure you are allowed to bring your children on patient floors. Accommodation for family members Members of your family can stay day and night at a hostel near the hospitals. Dinner and breakfast will be served on request. If you dispose of a single room, and if there is no contraindication, a member of your family may stay at your side during the night and take a meal with you. You will have to pay for this service at the Patient Registration. Pain management Day by day, the whole medical team will do its best to relieve your We encourage you to participate in your care by telling us about your pain and we will work with you to learn more about the best treatment for you. Right to be informed You are entitled to be informed on your state of health. The provided information will help you to make, along with the medical team, de cisions freely. If you do not want to be informed on your diagnosis and ur wish will be respected unless a third party is involved (risk of transmission). Medical record Content Your medical record comprises all the information on your state of health, in particular your past medical history, and present state of health, results of clinical investigations, x-rays, and laboratory Some administrative information as well as nursing information is also included. After your in patient stay, this file will remain at the hospital according to the French legislation (11th March 1968) on archival legislation. Your representative On arriving at the hospital, you will be asked to give the name of a person who you entrust; during the entire stay, he will be your representative in case you are no longer able to make your own decisions or understand provided information. He can assist you in medical consultation and steps to be made. You should also give the name of a person to alert, who can be different from your representative ("personne de confiance"). Minors A specific consent is required if your child needs care or to undergo surgery. If you withdraw any treatment for life threatening conditions, the doctor will administer necessary care all the same. Minors have the right to receive information and can participate in decisions regarding themselves. If a minor does not want his parents to be aware of his state of health, he may ask for another adult to accompany him. Majors under guardianship Protected majors (supervise d) should receive appropriate information and participate in decisions regarding themselves. If the patient is capable of making his/her own decisions, his/her consent will be required. If he/she withdraws a treatment for life threatening conditions, the doctor will administer necessary care all the same. A parking is reserved next to the H1 building. Road signs are dedicated to guide you inside the site from the obliged access (Pech-David) to the parking entrance. Larrey You can enter the parking through the Chemin de Pouvourville from the Route de Narbonne. A visitors parking is available. La Grave A parking area with 25 places is at your disposal in the courtyard called “cours Sainte-Germaine”.
