ANGEL TREE 2011
Once again, St. Bede Parish is sponsoring a
Christmas Angel Tree to help those who are less
fortunate. In the past years we have been able to provide
gifts for hundreds of children and adults in need. The
recipients of our generosity are from the Holy Family
THE GOOD DEEDS WORKFORCE
is developing a Senior Outreach Program. We are
looking for two kinds of people: 1)
PARISH
HELPERS
who are willing to assist others with small
tasks such as grocery shopping, driving to
appointments, friendly visits or periodic drop-ins on
fellow parishioners, and 2)
Parish members
who can
use these services. Interested individuals should contact

JESUS CHRIST, OUR KING
The followers of Jesus hold by faith that
He is the Messiah, the Christ. By his resurrection
from the dead, his Apostles and disciples - all
devout Jews - came to believe and profess that He
is the One promised from all ages and for all ages.
In fulfillment of their mission to take Him, the
Good News, to the entire world, they preached
and gave their lives. They received the Holy Spirit
in a most memorable way ten days after Jesus the
Christ left them and ascended into heaven. This is
the Spirit that Jesus promised He would send
upon his Church. This is the Holy Spirit that
inspires and prompts us to acknowledge Jesus as
the Christ. This is the Holy Spirit that inspires and
prompts His Church to proclaim Him Universal
King.
The Church lives the once and for all act
of redemption on a daily basis. All that Jesus said
and did comes to a climax on Calvary. For those
without the gift of faith, that is the end of it. The
Resurrection, however, made all the difference in
the world, made all the difference for the world.
We name the mystery of the third day Easter.
We celebrate the Eucharistic representation of
Easter every day of the year, save Good Friday
and Holy Saturday. But we use the oh so human
custom of marking the movement of the earth
around the sun. We count the days, weeks and
months that equal a year, and we mark our
maturing by this measure. We transcend the
seasons, or rather we baptize the seasons with
the specific remembering of the phases of Jesus
This Sunday marks the final Sunday of
Ordinary Time and, of course, we focus upon
Jesus Second Coming in Glory. The image of the
Universal King helps us capture the promise of
salvation available for all of us. When the Son of
Man comes in his glory Jesus told his disciples,
he will sit upon his glorious throne, and all the
nations will be assembled before him. We dare
not miss the practical expectation Jesus has for all,
Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of
the least brethren of mine, you did to me.
